Before you can get your CDL (commercial driver’s license), the Department of Transportation requires you to take a DOT medical exam.
Due to the heavy physical demands of a commercial driving job, it’s necessary to examine your physical condition to ensure the lifestyle doesn’t take a toll on your body. The goal is to ensure that you can safely operate a commercial motor vehicle as well as hitch and unhitch a tractor-trailer or change tires when a need arises.
Drug testing is not routinely conducted unless mandated by your employer for operating commercial vehicles. Blood sugar is not tested either. There is a urine test for blood, sugar, and protein. Urine is not screened for drugs or other medical issues.
The duration of a CDL Medical Certificate is valid depends on your situation. Most young drivers without any medical conditions will qualify for a two-year certification. Your CDL Card may be restricted to one year or less based on the guidelines issued by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
The Medical Examiner has to follow those guidelines strictly. If you have medical problems, it is best to bring your latest test results, medication history, and laboratory results including Stress Tests, Diabetes Tests, or notes from your consulting physicians (Cardiologist, Psychiatrist, etc.) If you have sleep apnea, it is good to bring the Sleep Log Report for the last 6 months.
Once you check-in, the old CDL Medical Card expires automatically. If you abandon the process, it has to be submitted as such to the DOT, under federal law.
Your DOT exam must be performed by a US DOT Certified doctor as per the FMCSA. Statcare is NY’s #1 destination for CDL Drivers wanting a CDL card in a rush. Our doctors have all the appropriate certification from NRCME and are available 7 days/week, 365 days a year (including all national & State holidays).
Your $125 DOT medical exam at Statcare includes a medical history (specifically health history regarding high blood pressure and other or health conditions). It also includes vision testing, hearing, and urine testing. Once your exam is finished, our DOT Medical Examiners will then submit your certification to the FMCSA or NYS DMV while you’re still here.
To get a fast, reliable, and convenient DOT physical exam, visit any of our 8 locations throughout NYC; in Astoria, Hicksville, Brooklyn, Bronx, Bartow, Jackson Heights, Midtown Manhattan, and Jamaica Queens.

Your DOT certified doctor will be making sure that you are healthy enough to complete the demanding duties of your job as a commercial driver. While it is not required that you are in the best shape, you will have to be healthy enough to pass a few tests.
Statcare’s DOT exam is all-inclusive, testing your vision, hearing, and urine to fulfill the exam requirements. The physical also tests your heart, blood pressure, as well as a handful of other areas. We do not require a drug test in order to issue your DOT medical examiner’s certificate, and only give you one if your employer requests it.
Statcare’s DOT exam is among the most affordable, quick, and easy in New York, and it is, in fact, one of the oldest facilities issuing medical certifications for commercial drivers for several large trucking companies. We create a simple experience in order to get you back on the road as quickly as possible. Once you have passed, you will not have to return to Statcare for another exam until 24 months later. As we keep your information on file, we will contact you before you are due for your DOT exam in order to set up an appointment at your convenience.
When you are preparing for your DOT exam, please do not forget to bring medical records and any notes from specialist doctors you may be seeing, in order to keep your Statcare doctor informed on your health status and what you will be needing to pass your exam. If any paperwork is forgotten, you can return with it later, as Statcare is open late 365 days a year, including holidays and weekends.
While your physical will not be covered by insurance, Statcare offers a special price of $95 for DOT exams that includes any necessary vision and hearing help as well as a $10 charge for federal reporting. We believe in offering high-quality care at an extremely affordable price. There will be an additional $10 charge for federal reporting.
When you visit any of our five urgent care locations, you can receive treatment for anything else you may be experiencing, from a minor cut to an ear infection. Make the most out of your visit and get assistance for any issues you have.
